Forensic Structural Investigation

...

Forensic Structural Investigation is a field of engineering which involves the study of structure and determining the causes of failure of structure. Forensic structural engineering is a professional practice of determining the causes of structural failures and identifying the responsible factors. The practice involves engineering investigations, rendering opinions and giving expert testimony in judicial proceedings if required. Whether they occur during construction or during their service lives, failures of constructed facilities are almost always followed by engineering investigations. As the findings inevitably create claims of damage and often result in disputes and legal entanglements, the forensic structural engineer operates in an adversarial environment and therefore needs not only to be able to perform the necessary investigations but also to have an understanding of the basic concepts of the practice of forensic engineering.

At Oz Geos our structural engineers are well trained and experienced to work in the space of forensic structural investigation. We have worked for various projects where dwellings or  buildings were affected by natural causes like earthquakes, floods, storm damage, hail impact and also impacted due to constructional defects or poor maintenance. We pay attention to details to form the correct understanding about the source and cause of the defects. We have various tools such as satellite imagery, geological maps, groundwater maps, top of the line structural analysis software to determine and confirm the cause of defects. We also provide design and report for mitigation of these defects including preparing tender documentation for re-built as and when required.
