Pavement Design

...

Pavement Design is the process of planning, designing and construction of pavements for road crossings, parking lots, playgrounds, footpaths, and many other applications. Pavement design consists of geometric designs as well as mechanical design for the pavement make-up.

Pavements are typically flexible and rigid.

Flexible Pavements are used mainly in parking lots and driveways. This type requires more maintenance as compared to rigid pavement. Flexible pavement is made of layers of asphalt, cement, and aggregate.

Rigid Pavements are the generally used for highways and streets. They are typically made of asphalt or concrete. It is designed to be a solid and stable surface that can withstand heavier traffic loads.

Our Civil Design Team, focusses on the purpose and application of the pavement to be designed. We typically provide professional recommendation on the material to be used, design to be adopted prior to carrying out the actual design. During the design phase we communicate with our client to advise them about the benefit and risks of the pavement design in terms of construction cost and future maintenance. We use state of the art finite element modelling software to determine the predicted settlement and then analyse for the determination of the pavement make up. We produce clear drawings to illustrate the geometric design of pavements and provide reports exhibiting the calculation procedure.
