Deep (Pile) Foundation Design is a founding structure which is intended to carry the building load to deeper stratums having superior bearing capacity and skin friction, when the shallow soil stratum is not capable of supporting the structure with a tolerable settlement and adequate safety against shear failure. Pile structure is a slender column or long cylinder made of materials such as concrete or steel, which are driven into the ground or cast-in-situ (bored or continuous flight auger). The two common types of deep foundations are well foundations (or caisson) and pile foundation. The design of pile foundation involves design providing adequate pile type, size, embedment depth, and number to support the superstructure load without excessive settlement and bearing capacity failure. Pile foundation are used for basement structures, high rises and also for retention system. Piled retention system are typically secant pile walls and contiguous pile walls which also assist in restricting ground water flow into the excavation.

Our team works with various piling contractors, structural engineers and project developers to design deep founding system. We carry out the geotechnical parametric modelling to estimate the mechanical properties of soil and rock. We understand that geotechnical parametric modelling is central to the pile design as configuring the soil/rock strength and modulus parameters requires local experience and expertise in understanding geological formations. In parallel our pile designer acknowledges the surrounding conditions, i.e., presence of adjacent structures, tunnels, underground assets, groundwater flow etc. We also, collaborate with our clients to understand the budgetary constraints and also their objectives. Often, we provide our recommendations to reduce cost and increase efficiency in designing deep founding system by distribution of loads, usage of ground anchors, pile types etc.
